NAACP Image Awards 2023: A Night of Black Excellence on the Red Carpet


 


The 54th NAACP Image Awards took place on February 25th, 2023 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, and it was a night of celebration and recognition for actors, actresses, and creatives of color. The event was hosted by Queen Latifah and featured nominees and winners from various untelevised categories.

Before the ceremony, the stars of nominated television series like black-ish, P-Valley, and Abbott Elementary graced the red carpet in their glamorous attire. Many couples also attended the event, including social media personality and actress Tabitha Brown with her husband, Chance Brown, and Tobe Nwigwe with his wife, Fat Nwigwe.

Throughout the night, the audience was treated to many heart warming moments of Black excellence, from Attorney Benjamin Crimp's fiery speech when receiving the Social Justice Impact Award to Serena Williams' humble gratitude when receiving the Jackie Robinson Sports Award.


Other memorable moments included Viola Davis' reflection on winning the Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture category, as well as Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union dedicating their President's Award to their daughter, Zaya, and Black trans people worldwide.

The red carpet was also filled with stunning fashion and notable attendees, including Angela Bassett, Janelle Monáe, MC Lyte, Zendaya, and many others. Notably, Adjoa Andoh and Akua Gyamfi made an appearance together, while Pinky Cole and Derrick Hayes graced the red carpet as a couple.

The 54th NAACP Image Awards was an event that celebrated and honored the Black community's achievements and contributions to the entertainment industry, and it will be remembered as a night of Black excellence on the red carpet.
