Aldi's Peanut Butter Surprise Egg: A Budget-Friendly Dupe for Reese's Pieces
One of Aldi's latest offerings is the Dairyfine Peanut Surprise Milk Chocolate Egg, a dead ringer for Reese's Milk Chocolate Egg, down to the peanut butter-stuffed filling. Reese's, owned by American confectionary giant The Hershey Company, is renowned for its peanut butter products, with its Peanut Butter Cups well worth the hype.
As a self-professed peanut butter and chocolate enthusiast, I was keen to try Aldi's version and see whether it measures up to Reese's. While Reese's looks swankier with its gold foil and bright orange box, Aldi's version is bare, which may well be an environmental decision. Despite getting a little battered in the box, the egg maintained its shape.
Aldi's chocolate isn't as rich and creamy as Reese's, but the difference is negligible. Inside the egg are peanut butter-stuffed eggs, although Aldi isn't as generous with the serving of peanut butter as Reese's. Still, the sweet richness of the chocolate combines perfectly with the salty goodness of the filling.
